Mute is a brand built around a single proposition: less noise. The brief was to create a brand identity that embodied this proposition in its own visual form — a logo that communicates through restraint, not through graphic complexity or bold visual assertion.
This is one of the most demanding briefs in brand identity design: create something that expresses a complete brand personality through near-total simplicity. Every decision in a minimal logo is exposed; there is no visual complexity to distract from imprecise geometry or careless spacing.
Design through subtraction
Most logo design adds: more geometry, more colour, more visual interest. The Mute identity was designed through subtraction — starting from the letterforms and removing everything that wasn't carrying meaning.
The result is a wordmark where:
- Custom letterform geometry — not a typeface choice, but constructed letterforms where every proportion is deliberate
- Deliberate negative space — the spaces within and between letters are as carefully considered as the strokes themselves
- Restrained colour — a palette that does not compete with the product for attention
The logo as brand statement
