Badge Retriever is a sharp B2B concept. The name is a double play — it's a service that retrieves badges, and the brand is fronted by a retriever dog. That kind of brand clarity is rare, and the client knew it.
They also knew exactly what the mascot should look like: a cool, simplified flat-vector dog with oversized sunglasses, confident and slightly cheeky. The kind of mascot that works on an app icon and on a company polo at the same time.
So they wrote a detailed AI prompt, generated the concept with ChatGPT, and got back something that captured the vision perfectly.
The problem was the file couldn't be used for anything.
The Client Brief
Badge Retriever is a B2B service targeting security teams and HR departments — helping organisations recover employee access badges and airport ID cards after staff departures. The brand needed to feel approachable and memorable in a category that's usually dry and corporate.
Company: Badge Retriever Industry: Business & Consulting Service: Badge and ID card recovery for organisations Target audience: Security teams and HR departments, primarily in airport and facilities management contexts Visual direction: Confident, playful, modern flat mascot — retriever dog with sunglasses, two-colour (navy on amber), extremely simple geometry, suitable for app icons, merchandise, stickers, embroidery
The mascot concept was intentional on every level. A retriever retrieves. The cool sunglasses signal confidence and competence — this brand handles an awkward situation (chasing down ex-employees for badge returns) with ease. The flat, geometric two-colour style makes it versatile across every application a B2B brand actually needs.
The AI Prompt They Used
Create a clean, playful, modern flat vector mascot logo for a pet-related brand named "BADGE RETRIVER." The logo should feature a simplified front-facing dog head wearing oversized sunglasses, with a bold geometric silhouette and a fun, confident personality.
The dog should be drawn in a highly simplified, symmetrical vector style with no outlines, no gradients, no textures, and no realistic fur detail. Use only solid shapes and negative space.
Build the dog head from one dominant dark navy color. The dog should have two large upright triangular ears, slightly rounded at the tips, positioned symmetrically above the head. Keep the ears broad and simple, giving the mascot a friendly but confident appearance.
The upper head should transition into a wide pair of oversized sunglasses spanning almost the full width of the face. The sunglasses should be integrated directly into the dog illustration rather than looking like a separate pasted-on object.
Use thick, angular rectangular frames with subtly curved lower edges. The sunglasses should be the same dark navy color as the dog. Leave the lenses as the yellow background color through negative space.
Add three diagonal navy reflection stripes inside each lens, running from lower-left toward upper-right. Keep the stripes thick, evenly spaced, parallel, and identical on both lenses. The reflections should give the sunglasses a stylish, cool appearance while remaining extremely simple.
Between the lenses, create a strong central bridge shape that naturally connects to the dog's forehead and muzzle. Include a simple angular forehead/nose transition using negative space so the face remains recognizable even with very few details.
The lower face should have a cute rounded muzzle divided into two symmetrical cheek sections. Create two broad rounded jowls that curve downward and inward toward the center. At the center, place a simplified dark navy nose shape with a short vertical line descending toward the mouth.
Add minimal facial detail: each muzzle side should contain three small circular dots, arranged like simplified whisker follicles. Keep these dots evenly spaced and identical on both sides.
Beneath the mascot, place the brand name in two stacked lines: BADGE / RETRIVER
Use all-uppercase bold condensed sans-serif typography in the same dark navy color as the mascot. "BADGE" should be slightly wider and use a heavy geometric sans-serif. "RETRIVER" should sit directly underneath in a much more condensed, tall, narrow uppercase sans-serif.
Use only two colors:
- Warm golden yellow / amber background: approximately #FFB914 to #FFBB16
- Deep muted navy / blue-purple artwork: approximately #303A68 to #343D6C
The yellow should fill the entire square canvas, while all mascot and typography elements remain solid dark navy.
Maintain very strong visual symmetry throughout. Keep the shapes chunky and vector-friendly. The overall character should feel like a professionally designed modern startup mascot.
Style keywords: minimal dog mascot logo, golden retriever icon, sunglasses dog logo, startup mascot branding, flat geometric vector, two-color logo, bold negative space, playful modern identity, symmetrical animal icon, sticker-friendly, screen-print friendly.

What the Rebuild Required
A flat two-colour mascot looks simple. The simplicity is the challenge — every line, every proportion, every curve is visible and has to be exact.
The dog silhouette. The overall head shape — broad triangular ears, rounded skull, wide lower jaw — was rebuilt as a single unified vector path system. Symmetry was enforced mathematically, not by eye. The silhouette had to hold at 16px app icon size and at full sticker scale simultaneously.
The sunglasses construction. The oversized frames — with their thick rectangular borders, curved lower edges, and the three diagonal reflection stripes inside each lens — were rebuilt as precisely positioned vector paths. The lenses open to the yellow background through negative space, so the lens colour is the canvas itself. Every stripe is identical on both sides.
The nose bridge and muzzle. The connection between the sunglasses frame and the rounded muzzle — the architectural challenge of a flat mascot — was rebuilt with clean geometric shapes that guide the eye through the face naturally. The two rounded jowl sections, the integrated nose, and the six whisker dots were all built from precise circular and curved paths with exact placement.
The typography. "BADGE" and "RETRIVER" are not simply typed — the two lines have different typeface weights, different letter spacing, and are proportioned so both lines appear the same overall width despite having different character counts. Each was adjusted at the individual letter level until the stacked lockup balanced perfectly.
The colour system. Two colours, exactly specified:
| Colour | Role | Hex | Pantone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amber / Golden Yellow | Background / canvas | #FFB914 | 7549 C |
| Deep Navy | All artwork | #343D6C | 2756 C |
Two-colour logos have maximum versatility: screen printing is cheaper, embroidery is simpler, and sticker production is straightforward. The colour system was specified for every production context.
